Columbus Dispatch on 2008 Ugly Stick

Back in 2008 when Ugly Stick put out their sophomore album Still Glistening, the Columbus Dispatch wrote up their album release show at Cafe Bourbon Street and included an interview with Al Huckabee. Here is some of that:
Ugly Stick, a Delaware-bred “cow-punk” quartet, is back with Still Glistening, its first album in 14 years.
What is “cow punk”? Allow guitarist Al Huckabee to shine some light on the matter:
Q What does the music on Still Glistening sound like?
A It has a lot of story songs -- one about a two-legged love triangle in an unnamed Southwestern city. One follows the decline and ruin of a good-timing couple set in a marina bar. There’s a creepy, ’50s-infused murder ballad and a short rocker about not finding the parts one needs at the junkyard.
There’s one party song narrated by a goat -- which kind of touches on two universal themes: parties and goats. Who can’t relate?

Columbus Dispatch: Local Limelight - Orchestraville

For there last release, the 2010 album Poison Berries, Orchestraville got together and played a rare show, which the Columbus Dispatch covered in this piece:
Time had a way of eroding the well-intentioned plans of the men of Orchestraville-- which this weekend will release its third full-length album, Poison Berries.
The product gathered dust for almost six years.
“All of the members were eventually focusing on other things,” said singer-guitarist Chris Forbes, 40. “Dave now lives in Colorado. Parker Paul got sick of baby-sitting me and went on to have two children of his own.”
With the two other members playing full time in the Columbus chamber-folk outfit the Black Swans, ambitions faded.
A now-or-never attitude has the 20-year ensemble back on track, said Forbes, whose quartet on Saturday will feature a fifth member - previous guitarist Matt Duckworth.

Dispatch: Musicol owner still meeting recording needs of varied clients

The Columbus Dispatch recently chatted with local legend John Hull of Musicol, which records, masters and presses records local, and is responsible for dozens, if not hundreds, of local releases. Check out part of the interview:
Q: At first, you just had the studio. How did you get into the record-pressing business?
A: We were recording a lot of Southern gospel. There were quite a few of those groups around Columbus at that time. We had a mastering facility, but were sending out to a company in Cincinnati to get the records manufactured. We found out that company had a studio, and whenever we’d send out an order, he’d contact our customers behind our backs and say “Come on down here to Cincinnati to record!?” (Laughs) We found out what he was doing, one of our customers told us, so we said “Why can’t we press records?”
